Ludhiana: 7-kg poppy husk seized, 56-yr-old held: rly police

The officer said that the accused told them that he was an addict and was bringing the substance for his own consumption, but he also sold some of it to his acquaintances

The railway police caught a 56-year-old man carrying 7-kg poppy husk at the Ludhiana station here on Friday. The man has been identified as Jagseer Singh, a truck driver from Bandni Kalan village in Moga district.

“He was seen trying to leave the station through an under-construction part. It made the personnel on duty suspicious. Upon checking, cops found a bag of poppy husk,” said Inspector Palwinder Singh, incharge of Ludhiana Government Railway Police (GRP).

The officer said that the accused told them that he was an addict and was bringing the substance for his own consumption, but he also sold some of it to his acquaintances.

The GRP has slapped Sections 15, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.

He is due to be presented in front of a magistrate on Saturday. The GRP said it would seek his one-day remand for further interrogation.
