The municipal corporation has adopted a zero-tolerance policy to curb the illegal discharge of dairy waste into the Buddha Nullah and has booked two dairy operators for violating environmental norms, officials said on Thursday.

In the first case, the owner of Ajay Dairy, located in Gita Nagar, was found releasing untreated dairy waste, including slurry and polluted water, directly into the Buddha Nullah. The action was taken following a complaint filed by Amritpal Singh, assistant corporation engineer, urban water and wastewater management limited, Zone-B. During an inspection, civic officials confirmed that untreated waste was being discharged straight into the river.
In a separate case, a dairy operator identified as Harnaam Singh was booked for dumping slurry and contaminated water into the Buddha Nullah in Block-23. The case was registered on the basis of a complaint submitted by the executive engineer, municipal corporation Zone-D (O&M).
FIRs in both cases have been registered under Section 279 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 70(3), 70(5) and 70(12) of the Northern India Canal and Drainage Act, 1873.
Civic officials said enforcement drives would continue to prevent pollution of the Buddha Nullah and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
