Ludhiana: Thieves make away with cop’s service pistol, ₹10,000, passport from car

In a major embarrassment for the police, burglars targeted the car of the in-charge of the arms licence branch of the police commissionerate in the city and decamped with his service weapon, passport and ₹10,000 in cash from a high-security zone near the Mini Secretariat.

Assistant sub-inspector Ravinder Singh had parked his car outside the PWD office, opposite to the Mini Secretariat, before going to work on January 17. When he returned in the evening, he found the car unlocked and a bag missing from inside.

The stolen bag contained a 9 mm pistol with 10 rounds, his passport and cash. After failing to trace the items on his own, the ASI lodged a complaint. The Division No. 8 police have registered an FIR under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against unidentified persons and launched an investigation.
