A long-standing dispute between two neighbours in Preet Vihar Colony at Noorwala Road turned violent on Saturday evening when Sanjay Sharma allegedly shot his neighbour Vinod Sharma twice following a heated confrontation over alleged misconduct with Vinod’s teenage daughter.
The victim, Vinod Sharma, 32, a hosiery trader, sustained bullet injuries to his back and abdomen and is undergoing treatment at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. Police are recording statements from the victim’s family to register a case against Sanjay Sharma, 46, and his two unidentified aides, who fled the scene after the shooting.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP-I) Sameer Verma, tensions between the two families had escalated over frequent quarrels, including disputes related to a beauty salon opened by Vinod’s wife opposite Sanjay’s house.
“On Saturday around 4 PM, Sanjay and his aides confronted Vinod near his house and opened fire. Locals rushed the injured man to hospital immediately,” ADCP Verma added.
Police have launched a manhunt to trace the accused and aides. An FIR will be registered based on the family’s complaint, and investigations are underway.
