MeT predicts moderate snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir from Thursday
Jammu and Kashmir’s meteorological department (MeT) on Sunday predicted light to moderate snowfall for three days in Jammu and Kashmir from Thursday after which the weather is expected to remain dry for a week.

The MeT said that the weather was hazy in Kashmir and mainly clear in the Jammu region on Sunday.
The director, MeT, Sonam Lotus said that the weather will remain cloudy with the possibility of light rain and snow at scattered places on Monday followed by two cloudy days.
“From February 9-11, the weather is expected to be cloudy with the possibility of light to moderate snowfall and rain at many places,” Lotus said.
He said that the outlook for the subsequent one week was of dry weather. “There will be no major snowfall,” he said.
There was moderate to heavy snowfall across Kashmir on the last day of the Valley’s harshest 40-day winter period of ‘Chillai Kalan’ on Monday which prompted the suspension of flights at the Srinagar airport and train services from Banihal to Baramulla while the Srinagar-Jammu Highway was closed due to shooting stones in Ramban. The services resumed a day after.
The minimum temperature in Kashmir valley’s summer capital Srinagar was 1.8°C during the night.
The MeT update said that the southern resort of Pahalgam in Anantnag witnessed -5.4°C while it was -6.4°C in the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla.
North Kashmir’s frontier district of Kupwara near Line of Control witnessed 2.9°C while it was 0°C in South Kashmir’s Kokernag and 0.4°C in Pampore’s Konibal.
Jammu division’s three of six weather stations - Bhaderwah, Batote and Banihal – witnessed low temperatures of 2.2°C, 3.8°C and 2.2°C respectively. The winter capital Jammu city witnessed 8.3°C while it was 8.4°C in Kathua.
Kashmir’s winter pans out in three stages starting with the 40-day intense period from December 21 (Chillai Kalan) which ended on January 30 followed by 20 more days that are less intense (Chillai Khurd), and finally 10 days of mild cold (Chille Bache).
