Migrant labourer stabbed to death in Ludhiana, probe on

A migrant farm labourer was found dead with a stab wound in an agricultural field near Kishangarh Chhanna village in Raikot on Saturday, police said.

Police suspect an old rivalry may have led to the killing, but the exact motive will be ascertained after the accused are identified and arrested, said Sadar Raikot station house officer (SHO) inspector Heera Singh.

According to the police, victim Prakash Kumar hailed from Hanmangarhi in Bihar and had been working in the fields of Sukhjivan Singh, a resident of Lakha Singh Wala, for around four months. He was putting up at his employer’s house, the SHO said.

According to the complaint filed by Prakash’s uncle, Kuldev Rishidev, he had gone to the fields as usual to work but did not return home for lunch. Around 3 pm, Kuldev, along with Rajiv Kumar and Sukhjivan Singh, went looking for him. They found Prakash lying near a tubewell room in the agricultural fields belonging to Chamkor Singh of Kishangarh Chhanna. He had sustained a stab wound in his back and had died at the spot.

Police teams are working to identify the accused and establish the circumstances that led to murder. An FIR under Section 103(1) of the BNS has been registered against unidentified accused.
