Missing for a day, an 18-year-old Class 11 student was found murdered in the fields in Bhaini Colony of Mundian Kalan on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Aanchal, a resident of Tajpur village, studied at a government school in Division number 3 area. Panic gripped the area after the locals noticed the body wrapped in a blanket, sans her shoes and school bag. On being informed, the Jamalpur police reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
Police suspect the involvement of Prince, 20, in the crime and are currently working to trace him. They also suspect that the accused is likely to have murdered the victim elsewhere and dumped her body in the fields.
A missing complaint had earlier been registered by the victim’s father, Ganga Charan, who is a street vendor. The complainant said his daughter usually took an auto rickshaw to school and had left the house on Wednesday morning for an exam. She was supposed to return by 2 pm. However, when she did not reach home till 3 pm, he visited her school, where he was informed that she had left the school premises by 1.30 pm.
The victim’s father then reached out to the Jamalpur police, but was asked to file a missing complaint at the Division number 3 police station as the victim had apparently gone missing from the school.
He then lodged a complaint and handed over her photographs to the Division number police. He was asked to come back for an update on Thursday, but police discovered the victim’s body in the fields prior to that and informed the family..

{{/usCountry}}Inspector Bikramjit Singh, station house officer (SHO) at the Jamalpur police station said the postmortem report suggested that the victim was strangled to death. He added that there was no visible sign of sexual assault on the victim.
The victim’s father informed the police about his daughter talking to Prince around two weeks ago. The inspector added that the police are trying to trace Prince.
As per sources, police have found closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage showing the victim accompanying the accused on a bike.
