Mohali police on Tuesday busted a gang which used to loot people by posing as domestic helps with the arrest of five of Nepalese nationals, including two women.
The accused have been identified as Sanju, 20, Preeti, 19, Debinder Khadi alias DK, 24, Rajinder Thapa, 23, and Yogesh Chhetri, 23. Police said the accused were arrested from their hideout in Delhi’s Paharganj area.
Police said they had looted cash and gold, reportedly worth ₹30 lakh, from the house of a jeweller in Sunny Enclave area of Kharar in 2022. Sunny Enclave police post in-charge, sub -inspector Abhishek Sharma, said, “In the Sunny Enclave loot case, Sanju had started working at the jeweller’s house as a domestic help. After working there for 10 days, she drugged the family after mixing intoxicants in their food. After that, she opened the door for her accomplices and they looted the house and fled”.
“During investigation, it was found that the kingpin paid them their share and then started looking for another group of Nepalese nationals to commit his next crime with,” said Sharma, adding that the arrested accused were produced in court on Tuesday and sent to five days in police remand.
A police officer said that with the arrest of the gang, police are expecting to solve more loot cases. “ A similar complaint was registered at Mataur police station around four months ago and we are trying to investigate if any of them are involved. A case was also reported from Sector 34, Chandigarh, five days ago, where another jeweller was looted in a similar manner,” SI Sharma added.
