A 36-year-old labourer died after a car allegedly hit his motorcycle from behind near Tripri village in Kharar, police said on Sunday. The accident took place at 6.50 pm on Friday when Vijay Kumar, a daily wage labourer, was heading toward his house on his motorcycle.

His brother Vikramjit Singh, who was behind him on another bike, told police that a white Maruti 800 car (PB10AV7207) overtook him near Tripri village and hit Vijay from behind. The victim struck a roadside pole, resulting in his death.

According to Vikramjit, the car driver stopped for a while but fled when people gathered at the spot. Passersby called an ambulance and shifted Vijay to the Kharar civil hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

An FIR has been registered against the unidentified car driver under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Kharar police station.
