Murder accused arrested after encounter in Amritsar village

The accused has been identified as Jaspal Singh, alias Bhatti, of Patti village in Hoshiarpur district. He was wanted in a murder case registered on January 13, 2025, at the Kotwali police station in Kapurthala.

Police have apprehended a murder accused following an encounter in the area falling under jurisdiction of Khilchian police station of Amritsar rural.

It is alleged that the accused had murdered Lakhwinder Singh, a resident of Phullewal village in Kapurthala due to personal enmity.

The accused has been identified as Jaspal Singh, alias Bhatti, of Patti village in Hoshiarpur district. He was wanted in a murder case registered on January 13, 2025, at the Kotwali police station in Kapurthala.

According to police, a tip-off was received that the accused was moving in the area and was armed with modern weapons.

Acting swiftly on the information, police teams laid a naka (checkpoint) and began checking vehicles. On spotting the accused, he allegedly opened indiscriminate fire at the police party in an attempt to evade arrest. In self defence, police carried out retaliatory action, during which the accused sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was subsequently apprehended, according to DIG, border range Sandeep Goyal.
