A student from Bihar was killed and another critically injured when they fell from the third storey of a hostel building at DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology (DAVIET) here following a clash between them at a birthday party, police said.

One of the students, identified as Krishna Kumar Yadav, died on the spot after the clash on Sunday night over contribution of money for the party and another, Aman Kumar, was critically injured and admitted to a private hospital.
Sanjeev Naval, dean, student welfare, at DAVIET said that the dispute started with an argument at the party which turned into a fight. While fighting, the two students fell from the third floor when the railing broke.
“One of these students died on the spot, while the other was seriously injured. Both students were studying BSc and were residents of Bihar,” the dean added.
DCP Jaskiranjit Singh Teja said that the argument between the two heated up when Aman denied to give his share for the party due to his financial condition.
“A case under Section 304 (causing death by negligence) of the IPC has been registered against Aman at police station division no. 1 of Jalandhar city.
