PGI’s satellite centre in Sangrur is likely to become operational from March next year. The central government has started recruitment for around 350 posts, officials privy to the development said on Sunday.

These 350 posts include assistant professors, senior residents, junior residents, nursing staff and class-4 employees.
At the cost of ₹449 crore, the satellite centre, comprising a 300-bed hospital, is being set up at 25 acres in two phases with intent to reduce the overcrowding in the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, and travel time of patients.
The foundation stone of the satellite centre was laid in October 2013 by the then Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Sangrur deputy commissioner Jitendra Jorwal said that the central government has already advertised the posts and recruitment on these posts is underway.
“The recruitment is likely to be completed by the end of February and hopefully the centre will become operational from March,” added the DC.
