Punjab: Court accepts sanction to prosecute Dharamsot

The court has fixed December 2 as the next date of hearing to enable cognisance against two newly added accused — Mohinder Pal and Sukhwinder Singh.

A local court in Mohali on Tuesday accepted the sanction required under Section 197 of the CrPC to prosecute former Punjab minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot in a money laundering case.

In its order, the court stated: “An application for submission of sanction for prosecution of a public servant under Section 197 of CrPC has been moved by SPP for the directorate of enforcement. In view of the contents mentioned in the application, same stands allowed. Sanction to prosecute taken on record.”

The court has fixed December 2 as the next date of hearing to enable cognisance against two newly added accused — Mohinder Pal and Sukhwinder Singh.

The case pertains to allegations that Dharamsot and his family amassed disproportionate assets during his tenure as a cabinet minister between March 2016 and March 2020. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) initiated proceedings under Sections 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) following an FIR registered by the Vigilance Bureau in February 2023.
