Two people were injured, one critically, in a violent clash involving gunfire in a Ferozepur village on Saturday night.
Two groups at Betu Kadim village under Mamdot police station were engaged in an old rivalry—one led allegedly by former sarpanch Inderpal Dhawan alias Pamma, and the other by Ravinder Khullar alias Babbu Khullar.
Sources said that around 8 pm on Saturday, a heated argument broke out between members of the two groups over a minor issue. The altercation soon escalated, resulting in gunfire. During the firing, Akash Dhawan sustained a bullet injury besides one other (name yet unknown).
Critically injured Dhawan was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Mamdot. Considering his serious condition, doctors referred him to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot.
Karan Sharma, DSP (Rural), Ferozepur, reached the spot and while acknowledging that two persons sustained injuries added that a long-standing dispute existed between the two families, and several cases had already been registered against both sides in the past. He added that the police were investigating the matter and appropriate action would be taken as per the law.
