According to an official spokesperson of the VB, the accused, Amritpal Singh, was arrested following a complaint filed by a resident of Islamabad in Gurdaspur district.

The official said the complainant had retired as a junior engineer from the PSPCL department and his arrears regarding dearness allowance after retirement and arrears of pay fixation were pending with the department.

In this regard, he had met Amritpal. But he demanded a bribe of 15,000 to clear his dues/arrears. The complainant alleged that the accused had been harassing him for the last 1.5 years. The complainant also recorded the entire conversation regarding the bribe.

Unwilling to pay illegal gratification, the complainant approached the VB range Amritsar. Acting on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accountant was arrested red-handed while accepting bribe from the complainant in the presence of two witnesses.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the accused at the VB police station in Amritsar and further investigation is underway.
