The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Thursday apprehended a kanungo (revenue officer) for demanding a bribe of ₹33,000 for land demarcation work.

The accused, Raman Kumar, is posted at Kathgarh in Balachaur tehsil of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.
An official spokesperson of the bureau said the arrest was made following a complaint on the chief minister’s anti-corruption action line (95012-00200).
The complainant submitted that a local court had ordered demarcation of his land, which was assigned to Raman Kumar.
“Kumar termed the work as complicated and demanded ₹80,000 as bribe. Out of this, ₹33,000 ( ₹15,000 in cash and ₹18,000 through online transfer) was taken from the complainant,” the spokesperson said.
The complainant also submitted an audio recording of the bribe demand, along with online transaction details and other relevant evidence. Following this, VB sleuths conducted a raid and arrested the accused.
Kumar was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in Jalandhar. Further investigation is underway.
