Shots fired at BJP worker’s car in Mohali

The attackers slowed down near the BJP worker’s house, fired a shot at the vehicle’s window and then used swords to vandalise the vehicle before fleeing

Unidentified assailants opened fire at the SUV of a BJP worker in Phase 1 past Sunday midnight.

CCTV footage from the street showed a white Mahindra Scorpio driving through the residential street around 12.30 am. The attackers slowed down near the BJP worker’s house, fired a shot at the vehicle’s window and then used swords to vandalise the vehicle before fleeing. Police have seized the shell for forensic examination

Gurdeep Singh, the complainant and owner of the vehicle, told police he primarily worked in the rental housing business and was also associated with the BJP. He discovered his vandalised car when he stepped out early in the morning to leave for the gym.

ASI Devinder Pal Singh said police were examining CCTV footage from the area and verifying the sequence of events. “We are investigating the case. The FIR will be registered after completing the preliminary inquiry,” he said.

Police have also initiated checks to identify the white Scorpio used in the incident.
