Jammu & Kashmir police on Monday secured a life imprisonment conviction in Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case in Ganderbal.

The accused, Varinder Thakur of Sariswa, Bihar, has been awarded life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹50,000 by the court of principal sessions judge, Ganderbal, under Section 06 of the POCSO Act.
Police termed the conviction as a significant achievement and said that life imprisonment for an accused involved in a grave offence under the POCSO Act marks a major success in the Ganderbal police’s unwavering efforts to ensure justice for the victims of such heinous crimes.
“In addition to the above conviction, the accused has also been sentenced under Section 342 of IPC: One year imprisonment with a fine of ₹1,000 & Section 506 IPC: Two years imprisonment with a fine of ₹2,000,” the spokesman said, adding that that the judgment reflects the strong and effective prosecution put forth during the trial.
