Two men were killed and three others injured during a clash between two groups over an irrigation channel at Kothe Dashmesh Nagar in Muktsar on Friday night.
The deceased have been identified as Nirmal Singh of Kotbhai village and Baljit Singh of Kothe Dashmesh Nagar, both aged between 50 and 55 years.
The conflict, rooted in an ongoing dispute over a recently constructed water channel, reportedly turned fatal when an argument escalated into a physical confrontation involving lathis and agricultural implements.
While the injured were rushed to the Muktsar district hospital, Gidderbaha deputy superintendent of police Arun Mundan confirmed that the victims belonged to the same group.
Though the aggrieved families have alleged that firearms were used during the brawl, the police said that an autopsy at the local civil hospital will formally clarify the cause of death.
Special teams have been formed to identify and apprehend the accused as the investigation continues.
