Top government sources confirmed that Ghai’s name has been finalised and the process was on to appoint him. However, a formal notification is awaited. Sources close to Ghai’s family also confirmed that talks were on with the Punjab government.

Sidhu, who was appointed in March after the Aam Aadmi Party came to power, tweeted his resignation letter dated July 19 on Tuesday afternoon. He posted the letter submitted to chief minister Bhagwant Mann on social media and thanked him for the opportunity to serve the state. Besides Mann, he expressed gratitude to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha.

His letter cites “personal reasons” behind his decision to quit. However, close aides blamed “poor coordination” between the government and AG office behind his move. Even as three months have passed, the government is yet to appoint law officers. “He made his decision public as even after seven days, the government had not accepted his resignation,” claimed another associate in his office.
