A gangster was arrested following a brief exchange of fire with police near Sector 25 in Chandigarh on Wednesday, police said.
Mukesh, alias Golu Gohana, sustained a bullet injury following a retaliatory action by police and was admitted to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16.
Acting on a tip-off, Golu was intercepted by a team from the Chandigarh Police’s Operation Cell near the Rally Ground.
Golu opened fire on the police team which retaliated, leading to a bullet injury in his leg, police said.
A resident of Gohana in Haryana’s Sonepat district, Golu was wanted in several criminal cases.
This is the second encounter involving Chandigarh Police this year. On January 21, a gunfight broke out near Sector 39 involving two gangsters, Rahul and Ricky, who were shot in the leg and apprehended after their vehicle crashed during a high-speed chase. The duo was wanted in connection with a shooting incident at a pharmacy in Sector 32.
