With the aim to curb the long pendency of challans in the local courts, a database has been created by the Punjab and Haryana high court.
The data contains the details of the challaned vehicles and will be shared by Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA), Chandigarh traffic police and district courts to nail those who default on paying fines for long.
“This web-based data is going to help us in nail the defaulters. Sitting at RLA office, we will be able to know whehter or not a person applying for renewal of licence or any other document has cleared his/her previous challans,” said Kashish Mittal, who heads the RLA.
How will it work
The traffic police will feed the details of challaned vehicles in the web-based database. The database will upgraded as and when challans are cleared at the traffic police office. On the other hand, if a person gets the challan cleared from court, the court officials will upgrade the database accordingly. According to the officials, RLA will provide access to the database to both police as well as courts.
