More than ₹850 crore was lost to cyber-enabled financial fraud in Delhi in 2025, with 4,003 cases registered during the year, according to data shared by the Union government in the Lok Sabha. The Delhi Police recovered around ₹112.76 crore of the amount, the government said.

The Centre said it had set up the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) as an attached office to deal with cybercrime.

The Delhi Police also arrested 3,544 people in connection with the cases, minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar said in a written reply to a question raised by South Delhi BJP MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri.

Bidhuri had sought details of the cases registered in Delhi and the amount involved, along with information on the measures being taken by the Centre to curb cyber-enabled financial fraud and their effectiveness.

The Centre said it had set up the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) as an attached office to deal with cybercrime. “The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal has also been established as part of the initiative to facilitate reporting of cybercrime and enable coordinated action,” Kumar said in his response.

As of June 30 this year, details of more than 3.05 million suspicious bank accounts received from banks had been shared with concerned stakeholders, while transactions amounting to ₹25,698 crore had been blocked, according to the response.

The Centre also outlined measures to create awareness about cybercrime and financial fraud, including campaigns through social media, television, radio, schools and cinema halls. These included campaigns featuring celebrities, IPL-related awareness initiatives and observance of cybercrime awareness weeks, it said.

The scale of cyber-enabled financial fraud in Delhi has risen sharply over the past decade. According to data shared by the Delhi Police, 712 cases were registered in 2015, involving losses of ₹6.3 crore. By 2019, the number of cases had risen to 795 and losses to ₹26 crore.

In 2020, the number of cases more than doubled to 1,687, while losses rose to ₹35 crore. In 2021, 1,630 cases were registered and the amount lost reached ₹91 crore, according to the data.
