Delhi Police add murder charges against all accused in Sultanpuri case

On January 12, the union home ministry asked the Delhi Police to book the suspects for murder and ordered the suspension of 11 police personnel deployed in the PCR vans for allegedly responding late to several distress calls made by witnesses.

The Delhi Police on Tuesday added murder charges against the six accused who dragged 20-year-old woman Anjali Kumari under their car in the national capital's Sultanpuri area in the wee hours of January 1.

On January 12, the union home ministry asked the Delhi Police to book the suspects for murder and ordered the suspension of 11 police personnel deployed in the PCR vans for allegedly responding late to several distress calls made by witnesses.

This comes on a day when a Delhi court granted bail to Ashutosh, one of the accused in the Sultanpuri hit-and-drag case.

The Rohini court observed that his role started only after the commission of the offence. This comes days after the court had denied bail to him, saying that the probe is in the initial stage and as per the probe agency, the live location and timeline of accused is yet to be established.

He was arrested by the Delhi Police last week and was charged for harbouring the accused and misleading probe.

A Maruti Suzuki Baleno car hit 20-year-old Anjali Kumari who was on her way home on her scooter on January 1. After her leg got stuck on the underside of the car, she was dragged for nearly three hours over a stretch of 14 kilometres.
