The national capital is likely to see a thunderstorm with rain on Wednesday, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast. IMD officials said that parts of the city are expected to receive light, patchy rain on Wednesday, which might bring some respite from the heat; however, it may increase the humidity levels.

IMD experts said that it might take a few more days before monsoon finally hits the city as its progress -- which was ahead of its typical schedule--has slowed.

Kuldeep Srivastava, head of IMD’s regional weather forecasting centre, said that as opposed to the earlier forecast, which predicted rain from Tuesday, rainfall activity is yet to intensify in western Uttar Pradesh.

The minimum temperature on Wednesday is likely to be 26 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature is predicted to hover around 36 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature on Tuesday was recorded as 27.2 degrees Celsius, a notch below the normal, while the maximum temperature settled at 38.7 degrees Celsius, one notch below the season’s average.

On Tuesday, the Union ministry of earth science’s air quality monitoring centre, System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (Safar), said, “The wind speed is forecasted to stay high for the next three days and isolated rainfall is likely for the next two days in Delhi. Rainfall and aerosol washout are expecting to improve AQI. AQI is likely to stay in the ‘moderate’ to ‘satisfactory’ category for tomorrow [Thursday] and likely to improve further to the ‘satisfactory’ category on June 17 and 18. The dominant influence of dust leading to higher load of bigger particles is now finished after about a month and the ratio of PM2.5 versus PM10 is back to normal.”
