According to the officer, DCPs have been asked to identify active drug dealers and peddlers operating in these areas and review their criminal status whether they have been arrested, are on bail, or are absconding.

Where legally feasible, steps such as externment proceedings and preventive detention under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988, are being examined.

"The emphasis is not merely on arresting street-level peddlers. We have been told to dismantle the entire supply chain by working on both backward and forward linkages - from source to distribution network," the officer said.

Police units have also been instructed to coordinate closely with specialised anti-narcotics teams and enhance surveillance in identified hotspots. Data analysis, informer networks and technical intelligence are being leveraged to track repeat offenders and interstate suppliers.

In addition to enforcement measures, the commissioner has stressed the need for preventive outreach. Districts have been asked to organise awareness campaigns in JJ clusters, schools and community centres to sensitise teenagers and young adults about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

"Our approach is two-pronged - strict action against traffickers and sustained community engagement to prevent addiction. The ultimate goal is to make Delhi free of drugs," the officer added. Periodic reviews will be conducted to monitor progress and ensure accountability at the district level.

On the occasion of the 79th Raising Day of the force on February 16, the police chief stated that in 2025, the Delhi Police seized 6,144 kg of narcotic substances and attached 44 properties linked to drug trafficking. Of these, 29 properties were demolished following due legal process.
