The Ghaziabad police have chargesheeted five people, including prime accused Devendra Singh, for allegedly abducting Snapdeal employee Dipti Sarna in February this year.

Sarna was allegedly abducted by Devendra and his aides when she was on her way back home from office in an autorickshaw on the night of February 10.

A police officer said that all five accused — Devendra, Mohit Jat, Mohammed Faheem, Pradeep and Majid — had been named in the chargesheet in the kidnapping case.

All five men have been charged with abduction, robbery and criminal conspiracy with common intention.

“The court has taken cognizance of the chargesheet and the framing of charges in the case will begin soon. In her statements before a magistrate (CrPC), the victim has claimed that she was kidnapped and has given her statements against the accused,” said Avnish Gautam, station house officer of Sihani Gate police station and the investigating officer of the case.

The chargesheet mentions more than a dozen witnesses — including Dipti Sarna, her father Narendra, mother Vandana, brother Jatin and two other people. The list of other witnesses includes police officers, including Kavi Nagar station house officer Ashok Shishodia and investigating officer Gautam.

The police suspect that Devendra was staying at a rented house in Delhi’s Khoda Colony and had purchased two autoricksaws for abducting Sarna. He had roped in four other accomplices after telling them that Sarna was a rich ‘hawala’ trader and her abduction would fetch them a handsome amount.

On the night of the incident, Devendra allegedly trailed Sarna in his auto from outside Vaishali metro station in Ghaziabad. He later got Sarna’s auto punctured after which she, unknowingly, boarded Devendra’s auto.

When the auto reached near river Hindon around 8.15pm, the aides of Devendra, who were already seated in the auto disguised as passengers, forced the other passengers out, kidnapped Sarna and took her towards Morti village near Raj Nagar Extension. From there, they fled towards Murad Nagar pipeline.

The case was cracked within 36 hours by the police after a massive media and online campaign was launched to relocate and bring back Sarna.
