A man fell to death while alighting from a state transport bus on the Mehrauli-Gurugram Road after the driver suddenly accelerated the vehicle instead of stopping, police said on Saturday.

Police said that the deceased, identified as Devender Singh, (47), was a resident of Dr Agya Ram lane in Sector-12. Police said the incident took place near the State Bank of India at about 5.15pm on Thursday.
On the complaint of Singh’s son, Kuldeep, (22), an FIR was registered against the unidentified driver of the state government bus under section 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Civil Lines police station on Friday.
Kuldeep said that his father was returning home with a colleague from Karnal on a state transport department bus. He alleged that his father asked the driver to stop the vehicle so that both could alight from it. The driver slowed down the bus and his father was standing on the stairs of the front door and was about to get down. However, the driver suddenly accelerated the bus and he fell and died at the spot. He said that his father’s colleague was an eyewitness to the entire incident.
Police said that the victim was rushed to the government hospital in Sector-10, but doctors declared him dead.

Gurugram police PRO Subhash Boken said they would soon serve a notice to the state transport department and ask it to share the details of the bus driver. “Once identified, he would be taken into custody for causing Singh’s death,” he added.
