MLA’s security personnel booked for assaulting toll staff
A security personnel of NIT Faridabad MLA Neeraj Sharma has been booked for allegedly assaulting an employee of the Bandhwari toll plaza on the Faridabad-Gurugram Road after he asked for an identity card for toll-free travel. The employee, Sumit Sirohi, was sacked for being drunk on duty. Sirohi was also booked for allegedly abusing the MLA and his party. The incident took place on April 9 when the MLA and his staff were returning to Faridabad from Gurugram.
A security personnel of the NIT Faridabad MLA Neeraj Sharma was booked for allegedly assaulting an employee of the Bandhwari toll plaza on the Faridabad-Gurugram Road after he stopped them and asked for an identity card to allow them passage without toll, police said on Friday.
Police said the employee, Sumit Sirohi, was drunk on duty and was later sacked after a medical test confirmed his inebriated state.
Police said Sirohi was also booked in a counter FIR filed by the security personnel for allegedly abusing the MLA and his party.
Police said the incident took place around 1.30am on April 9 when the MLA, his staff and security personnel were returning to Faridabad from Gurugram in two vehicles.
Investigators said the toll plaza management has provided the MLA with a pass that allowed him toll-free travel but it was not pasted on the vehicle’s windshield. Not seeing the pass, Sirohi asked the vehicle occupants for an ID to ascertain that it was the MLA who was in the car.
The toll management said they also asked the MLA’s convoy to take the emergency lane instead of the regular lanes.
The management alleged that Virender Malik, a constable with the Haryana Police, assaulted Sirohi after seeking quick passage.
Malik in turn alleged that Sirohi was drunk and he was continuously abusing the party even after the MLA displayed his ID.
“I entered the toll booth and pushed him. I saw that more toll plaza employees were reaching the spot with wooden bats. Sensing that the situation might deteriorate, I took the staffer to the nearest Mangar police post in Faridabad and handed him over,” Malik said.
However, Chetan Sharma, a manager of the toll plaza, alleged that the security personnel forcibly took his employee away.
On Sharma’s complaint, an FIR against the Malik was registered under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and Sirohi was booked under section 294 (using obscene word in public place) of Indian Penal Code DLF Phase-I police station on Thursday.
MLA Sharma said the staff not only misbehaved with him but with other vehicle owners who were ahead of his vehicle. “We didn’t drive through the emergency lane as it was unmanned. My vehicle had a flag and assembly pass pasted on it’ even then the staff misbehaved with us,” he said.
Subhash Boken, public relations officer of Gurugram police, said investigation is on and action in both the cases will be taken as per evidence.
