When Nisha Yadav moved to Gurugram from a laid-back life in Goa, it wasn’t the city’s skyline that left an impression on her. It was the pace. She discovered that Gurugram moved with an urgency that demanded ambition, rewarded innovation, and encouraged people to reinvent themselves.

For her, what began as a career move evolved into something far more personal. She found both opportunity and purpose in Gurugram.

Born and brought up in Goa, Nisha spent years studying there and then working in Mumbai, where she taught as a professor before moving into the corporate sector. In 2021, she shifted to Sector 82 in Manesar. By 2023, she had left behind her corporate job to establish Tendre Bouche, a boutique bakery that today caters to customers across Gurugram.

Her entrepreneurial journey, she says, was shaped by the city’s appetite for new ideas.

“Gurugram is a city of food lovers. People here don’t hesitate to experiment, and that gives entrepreneurs the confidence to create something different. I realised that while there were countless restaurants serving every cuisine, dedicated dessert destinations were still limited. I wanted to curate desserts that people would remember rather than simply consume,” she says.

For Nisha, this openness to experimentation became the foundation of her business.

“Food connects people emotionally, and desserts become part of celebrations and memories. I wanted to build something that could touch people’s hearts because food has always been the shortest route to them,” she says.

The city’s corporate culture has also played a defining role in shaping Gurugram’s food economy. With thousands of professionals working late hours, frequent office celebrations and an ever-growing delivery ecosystem, bakeries and cloud kitchens have become an essential part of urban life. From business meetings and birthdays to festivals and weekend indulgences, food has become woven into the city’s social fabric.

“Coming from Goa, where life is beautiful but opportunities are limited, Gurugram felt completely different. It is fast-moving, ambitious and full of possibilities. If you have an idea and are willing to work hard, this city gives you the platform to grow,” says Nisha.

Yet the city presents its own challenges. Spiralling commercial rentals, rising operational costs and worsening traffic remain persistent concerns for entrepreneurs trying to establish themselves.

“Traffic is probably the biggest frustration, and commercial rentals are extremely expensive. Running a food business requires constant planning because costs keep increasing. But despite these challenges, the opportunities here far outweigh the difficulties,” she says.

Today, with its production unit in Sector 31 and a growing customer base across Gurugram, Nisha sees the city as more than a marketplace. It is a place where ambition finds direction and ideas find acceptance.

For her, Gurugram represents the possibility of reinvention—a city that transformed a corporate professional into a baker and proved that sometimes, the sweetest opportunities are found far away from home.
