Gurugram: Over 48K voters added to list since LS polls in May

Gurugram The district administration on Friday said that the electoral strength of the district had reached 1,205,049 after 18,192 names were added to the latest revision of the electoral roll.

Prior to this, the electoral roll was revised on August 27. With this addition, as many as 48,192 new voters have been added to the electoral roll in the district in the four months since the Parliamentary polls held in May.

Gurugram district comprises four assembly constituencies — Gurgaon, Sohna, Pataudi and Badshahpur. At 395,463, Badshahpur constituency has the highest number of registered voters, while Gurgaon has the second-highest number of voters, at 361,105. Pataudi and Sohna have 219,644 and 228,837 voters, respectively.

The district election officer and deputy commissioner of Gurugram, Amit Khatri, on Friday shared the revised electoral roll figures with Anurag Agarwal, chief electoral officer of the state. Khatri said that the electoral population ratio of the district has improved since the Lok Sabha polls.

He also said that the total number of differently abled voters in the district is 3,674. Among the four constituencies, in the district, Gurgaon has the highest number of differently abled voters, at 1,151, while Sohna, Pataudi and Badshahpur have 900, 764 and 859 differently abled voters, respectively.

Khatri added that special arrangements would be made for differently abled voters so that they can vote without any hassle. “The administration will provide the facility of wheelchair and pick-and-drop transport service to the voters. However, the voters concerned would need to inform the returning officer in advance and place a request for assistance. In addition, volunteers from different social organisations will be deployed in the booths for any assistance that may be required,” he said.

The administration also said that its officers are keeping a strict vigil on the law and order situation in the district. As many as 45 checkpoints have been established across the district.
