R N Ravi takes oath as 22nd governor of West Bengal; CM Mamata Banerjee welcomes him
He was administered the oath by Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court, Sujoy Paul, in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee
R N Ravi took charge as the 22nd governor of West Bengal on Thursday after Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, Sujoy Paul, administered the oath of office to him at a ceremony in Kolkata’s Lok Bhavan.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee attended the ceremony and greeted Ravi and his wife with embroidered shawls.
Ravi, a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1976 batch, was appointed by President Droupadi Murmu after Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose resigned on March 5.
Ravi earlier served as governor of Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tamil Nadu. During his service, he held posts in the Intelligence Bureau and the Central Bureau of Investigation.

He was also the deputy national security advisor.
Bose, a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, renamed Kolkata’s Raj Bhawan as Lok Bhawan in 2025, stating that common people could come and register their grievances on any issue and he would take it up with the state administration.
He told the media on March 8 that he took a “conscious decision” to resign and that “the reasons behind this will remain confidential till the right time comes.”
