A suspected gangster and fugitive carrying a bounty of ₹1 lakh was killed in an encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Ambedkar Nagar district early Tuesday.

According to STF officials, the encounter took place around 5am near Jagdishpur village after the Noida unit of the STF acted on a tip-off about Asif Ali’s presence in the area.
When the STF team intercepted him, he allegedly opened fire in an attempt to escape. The personnel retaliated, killing him in the exchange of fire.

Additional director general of police, Law and Order, Amitabh Yash said Ali, a native of Kanpur, had been absconding for several years. He was the alleged leader of the Chhaymar gang and was wanted in connection with a 2014 dacoity in Jaunpur in which two people were murdered. UP Police had announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for information leading to his arrest.
Police said he was facing serious criminal charges and had remained elusive despite sustained efforts by law enforcement agencies.
