Gastroenterologist Professor Gaurav Pandey of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, has established a new combination therapy to provide relief at the same time prolong the life of patients of liver cirrhosis, acute liver failure and chronic liver disease.
The research titled Response Guided Slow Infusion of Albumin ,Furosemide and Trlipressin has been accepted by Journal of Inflammation. In the research, immunity expert of the Department of Clinical Immunology, Professor Vikas Agarwal and Professor Durga Prasanna Mishra, cardiologist, Department of Cardiology, Professor Sudeep Kumar , Gastroenterologist Professor Praveer Rai contributed.
Professor Gaurav Pandey said, “Trial was also done with this therapy in 135 patients of acute liver failure, in which very good results were obtained. The research has been accepted globally.”
Professor Pandey studied the cytokine, endotoxin level in the blood.
“For such patients, we developed a response-guided (as needed) therapy in which a four-drug combination of terlipressin, a specific drug to lower blood pressure, albumin, noradrenaline to increase circulation, and a diuretic (furosemide). This reduces swelling. The heart gets sufficient amount of blood. Heart’s working power gets better,” he said.
