PM Modi to virtually address Kashi-Telugu Sangamam today
The daylong event, which will be held at Mansarovar Ghat in Varanasi, will highlight the ancient civilisational ties between Kashi, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
VARANASI Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually address the Kashi-Telugu Sangamam to be organised in his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, on Saturday. The daylong event, which will be held at Mansarovar Ghat here, will highlight the ancient civilisational ties between Kashi, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The programme is being held when thousands of devotees from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and other south Indian states are coming to Varanasi for the ongoing 12-day Ganga Pushkaralu, a religious congregation that is held once every 12 years.
“The Kashi-Telugu Sangamam will be organised at Mansarovar Ghat here on Saturday evening. Thousands of devotees from south Indian states will participate in the event. We invite all Kashiites to attend it,” said GVL Narsimha Rao, BJP Rajya Sabha MP and chairman of Kashi Telugu Society, addressing a press conference.
“During Ganga Pushkaralu, which began on April 22, lakhs of people are arriving for a holy dip into the Ganga and for other rituals. The PM will address thousands of such pilgrims,” he said.
He said many people who are visiting Varanasi after 12 years are mesmerized after seeing the transformation of the holy city. “People want to thank PM Modi for the development in the city and equipping it with several facilities while maintaining its antiquity,” said Rao.
VS Subramanyam Mani, manager, Kanchi Shankaracharya Matt (Varanasi branch) said: “When Guru Brihaspati (Lord Jupiter) transits into Aries (Mesh Rashi), Ganga Pushkaram is celebrated on the bank of a river once every 12 years. It began in Kashi with Jupiter transiting into Aries at 5.15am on April 22.”
Over the last one week, thousands of devotees took holy dip into Ganga and performed ‘tarpan’ and ‘pinda daan’.
