The excise department officials and staff in Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) will join the Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) initiative to administer 75 lakh e-pledges to create awareness against drugs.
The excise department officers and staff would take the e-pledge “jeevan ko haan, drugs ko na (say yes to life, no to drugs)” at 11 am on Thursday and also approach educational institutes to involve them in the no-to-drugs campaign.
This is a first of its kind initiative, timed with the 75th year celebrations of country’s independence, officials said.
“The regional officers have been directed to contact educational institutes and make them a part of the program by taking e-pledge in their prayer meetings,” additional chief secretary, excise, Sanjay Bhoosreddy said.
“The main objective is to create awareness about the ill-effects of drugs so that the young can lead a drug-free life and play a role in nation building,” he added.
“The department is committed to making people aware of the ill-effects of consuming drugs and other intoxicants and to ensure people were healthy and happy. The NCB has released an e-pledge on the website https://pledge.mygov.in/fightagainstdrugabuse. To take the oath one needs to click the above given link and after following the process, take oath digitally,” he said.
“On August 11, all joint excise commissioner, zones, deputy excise commissioner, all district excise officers, district and assistant excise commissioners, enforcement, distillery and all the excise employees posted in the sugar-mills have been instructed to participate in this program. More people like those working in distilleries, sugar mill employees and all the licensees of the districts, people living in their neighborhood and relatives, friends need to be associated in this campaign,” he said.

The pledge
“We realize that drug abuse is increasing in our country, especially among the youth and this is a matter of concern. We pledge that we will cooperate in stopping the drug abuse. We promise that we will not consume any harmful or illegal drugs in any way for any purpose. We will create awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse by encouraging every person, especially the youth so that the youth of India can live drug free and they can become creative and important members of the society. Today we pledge that we will stay away from drugs and live a healthy life.” After the oath, an OTP will come on the mobile number of the concerned person and by filling the number at the given place, an ‘oath certificate’ will appear on the person’s screen and could be downloaded.
