LUCKNOW The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Monday arrested a youth from a hostel in UP’s Deoband town in Saharanpur district for allegedly propagating extremist and anti-national ideology through social media.

The police recovered an aadhaar card, two PAN cards, an ATM card, four sim cards, a mobile phone and a one memory card from his possession, stated the UP ATS press note.

ATS officials said that over the past few months, they had received information that some people were propagating extremist ideology through social media and also planning to carry out blasts at religious places to disturb social harmony.

“On these inputs, UP ATS arrested Inamul Haq from room number 19 of Nazmi Manzil under the Deoband police circle,” the press note stated. The police also found jihad related videos on his social media pages. Haq, a native of Jharkhand, had an inclination towards Lashkar-e-Taiba and was willing to be a part of their training programme, added the press note.

“He was also connected with people from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan through messaging applications. The arrest was made by the field unit of Saharanpur. Apart from Haq, other hostellers are also being questioned in this context,” it stated.

History-sheeter from Kanpur nabbed

A history-sheeter from Kanpur, who was absconding since 2013, was also arrested by the UP ATS. The accused, Qurban Ali, a resident of Babu Purwa locality in Kanpur, was manufacturing illegal weapons and carrying a reward of ₹25,000 on his head. He was named in many other cases, stated the UP ATS press note.
