The Alibag police have arrested a 22-year-old man for abducting his friend’s three-year-old son from Kurul village. The accused, identified as Madhukar Pardhi of Bhopoli, Poynad, was arrested on Monday within 12 hours of the case being registered with the police.
According to police, Pardhi had taken the boy to a village in Pen by tricking him into buying snacks for him. On Sunday morning, the parents of the boy left for work. At around 12 noon, Pardhi offered to buy snacks for the boy who was playing outside the house and took him away. By 7pm, after the parents came back from work, they realised that their son was missing. After looking for him for a while, his mother, Kavita (24), approached Alibag police and registered a case on Monday.
“The parents suspected Pardhi since he was staying nearby and worked with them and often played with the boy. Pardhi, too, was nowhere to be seen in the village and hence they suspected him,” Shailesh Sanas, police inspector from Alibag police station, said.
The police team had no photo of the accused and the name as told was also wrong. “We somehow managed to trace his previous employer who told us that he was from Poynad. From Poynad, we learnt that he was not there and his in-laws were from Diwanmal village in Pen. Our team walked for around three hours to locate him and nabbed him. The boy was safe in a house. The accused told that he bought the boy since the boy asked him to take him along. But we do not believe the story. The accused, too, has two sons. We are investigating further to know the motive behind the kidnapping,” the officer added.
