The police have arrested Dnyaneshwar Bhuwad, 43, a resident of Virar and are searching for the landlord, Sanjay Goyal, and one more unidentified person.

The case has been registered by Vikram Kumar Jain, 45, who runs Arihant Platinum Jewellery store in Bengaluru. Jain had taken Goyal’s shop in Cotton Exchange, Kalbadevi on rent by paying a deposit of 27 lakh, said the police.

“His employees used to purchase gold from the Kalbadevi market. On June 16, they purchased 4 kilograms of gold jewellery and kept it in the locker along with 2.5 crore in cash, said a police officer. However, the next day when the employees reached the shop, the landlord’s employees did not allow the employees and Jain himself to enter the building. Jain then spoke to Goyal, who told him that they would meet and later started avoiding his calls.”

The police immediately registered a case under the sections 380 (theft in dwelling house), 454 (punishment for lurking house-trespass or house-breaking), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. They have arrested Bhuwad, and are searching for the landlord and his unknown accomplice.
