Cancer patient dies by suicide

A 25-year-old blood cancer patient at KEM Hospital died by suicide, likely due to depression from prolonged illness, police report.

Mumbai: A 25-year-old man undergoing treatment for blood cancer at KEM Hospital died by suicide on Friday morning. The man was reportedly under depression and prolonged illness is suspected to be the reason behind his suicide, police said.

According to the Bhoiwada police, where the accidental death report (ADR) was registered, the man was a resident of Diva in Dombivli. He had been undergoing treatment at KEM Hospital since long and was admitted in the general ward. On Friday morning, when the hospital staff and his relatives could not find him on his bed, they searched for him and found him hanging outside the ward.

The Bhoiwada police registered the ADR after a post-mortem. The deceased’s family had no complaint against anybody, police said.
