Government employees end strike after pension assurance

MUMBAI: Government and semi-government employees in Maharashtra, who launched an indefinite strike on April 21, called off their agitation on Friday evening after the state administration assured that a notification on the implementation of the Revised National Pension Scheme (RNPS) would be issued within a fortnight.

The strike was spearheaded by the Coordination Committee for Government, Semi-Government, Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff, which had demanded implementation of the RNPS, recruitment to vacant posts, a cashless medical insurance scheme of ₹5 lakh, raising the retirement age from 58 to 60 years, and lifting the ban on the recruitment of Class 4 employees.

“Following a meeting with chief secretary Rajesh Aggarwal, we have received an assurance that the notification for RNPS will be issued within 15 days and recruitment for Class 4 posts will resume. Also, a meeting with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis will be held every three months on the issues. So we have decided to end the strike as of now,” said Vishwas Katkar, coordinator of the committee, in a statement.
