MUMBAI: An extortion case has been registered after a hotelier and managing director of the Juhu Millennium Club allegedly received threatening voice notes demanding money from unidentified persons.

According to police, complainant Rajeev Anand, 59, a resident of Oshiwara, received multiple calls from unknown numbers on March 25. As he did not answer the calls, the callers allegedly sent voice messages threatening him and demanding money.
Police said the callers claimed to be from Meerut and allegedly warned Anand of serious consequences if he failed to comply. In subsequent voice notes, they allegedly claimed that influential individuals were involved and challenged him to approach the police if he wished.
Following a preliminary inquiry, the Juhu police registered a case against unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to extortion, criminal intimidation and intentional insult.
The Juhu Millennium Club had come under the spotlight in October 2024 after members of the Bajrang Dal alleged that religious conversion activities were being conducted on its premises. The club had denied any wrongdoing.
