Mumbai: A 43-year-old Public Works Department (PWD) employee posted at the Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) office died on Wednesday after a branch of a Gulmohar tree fell on him in the premises.

The deceased has been identified as Anil Bhagoji Gore, a resident of Pant Nagar in Ghatkopar East. Gore worked as an electrician and was currently posted at the DGP office in Colaba.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 4 pm when Gore had gone to drink water. While he was returning from the water cooler, a large branch of a Gulmohar tree suddenly broke and fell on him. The branch struck his head, leaving him unconscious on the spot. The falling branch also damaged a few police vehicles parked nearby.
“Police personnel present at the spot rushed him to St George’s Hospital, where he was declared dead. Gore is survived by his two daughters, aged 12 and six, and his mother. He was native to Chiplun in the Konkan region,” said a police officer.
An investigation is underway to determine whether any negligence or lapse led to the incident and whether responsibility can be fixed, he added.
