Mumbai: A 59-year-old retired army jawan has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl who lives in the same building as him in Chembur. The former jawan was arrested on Sunday after it was found that the girl was two months’ pregnant, police said.
According to the RCF police, the minor girl was sexually assaulted between September 1 and October 6, but she did not reveal her ordeal to anyone as she was afraid of the accused. She was taken to Sion hospital recently after she complained of severe body pain, when it was found that she was two months’ pregnant.
“When the girl’s mother, a housekeeping worker, took her into confidence and asked her, she said that she had been sexually assaulted several times by the 59-year-old accused ‘uncle’,” a police officer told Hindustan Times.
The retired jawan was subsequently booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, police said.
