MUMBAI: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Thursday arrested a woman with cocaine worth ₹47 crore arriving at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) from Colombo, Sri Lanka. Four others allegedly linked to the syndicate’s financing, logistics, and distribution network were subsequently arrested.

According to DRI officials, acting on specific intelligence, officers intercepted the woman at the airport and recovered a white powdery substance concealed in nine coffee packets in her luggage. Tests conducted using an NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) field kit confirmed the substance as cocaine. The contraband weighed 4.7 kg and was valued at ₹47 crore in the illicit market, an official said.
Subsequently, the woman, suspected of being a carrier for an international drug trafficking syndicate, was arrested. During follow-up operations on Thursday and Friday, DRI officers nabbed the intended recipient of the consignment at the airport, followed by three more suspects allegedly involved in the syndicate’s financing, logistics, and distribution chain. All five accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
