Noida: Car catches fire after driver rams it into divider

A speeding car caught fire after its 24-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed it into a divider in Sector 39 early Tuesday, said police, adding that the injured were rescued by locals and admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Ajay Singh, station house officer, Sector 39, identified the injured as Vaibhav Tyagi, 24, the driver, and his friend Vinay, 24, who goes only by his first name. Both hail from Muzaffarnagar and reside in Faridabad.
“On Tuesday around 3am, when they were heading towards Noida from the Fairdabad side, Tyagi lost control of the i20 car while taking a U-turn near Hazipur in Sector 104 and rammed into the divider and caught fire,” said Singh.
When locals saw the vehicle on fire, they rushed to rescue the injured from the burning car and alerted the police. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.They are reported to be stable, said police.
Phase-1 fire safety officer Shiv Narayan Singh said the fire control room on being alerted rushed firefighters to the spot to douse the fire. The injured were taken to the hospital before firefighters reached the spot. Firefighters said a short-circuit is suspected to be the reason for the fire.
