The returning officer (RO) of Nagpur South West Assembly constituency on Saturday rejected all objections raised by the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), an independent candidate and a lawyer to the nomination papers filed by chief minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis.

AAP candidate Amol Hadke had said Fadnavis did not attach the no-dues certificate from the public works department (PWD) on outstanding rent or power bills and hence, his nomination should be rejected. “Fadnavis was an MLA from 2009 to 2013 and is the CM since 2014. He occupied the MLA hostel and later Varsha Bungalow. A certificate from PWD is mandatory.”
Meanwhile, Congress nominee Ashish Deshmukh and independent candidate Prashant Pawar said the tenure of the notary, VP Sontakey, who certified the CM’s documents had expired on December 28, 2018.
However, returning officer Shekhar Ghadge said all submitted documents were valid as the concerned authority had extended Sontakey’s tenure by five years. Further, he said that Fadnavis’s nomination papers included the PWD certificate.
Nagpur-based lawyer Satish Ukey’s claims that Fadnavis had filed false affidavits, and the documents were neither put on the notice board nor uploaded on the election commission’s website by Friday, were also dismissed.
