Raising slogans the BJP workers played colours and beat drums near Mundera Mandi as poll results showed trends in favour of BJP on majority of the seats in the state.

By evening, BJP workers started bursting crackers and played music across the city, including at residence of cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi and Sidharth Nath Singh.

The supporters of victorious candidates of Samajwadi candidates also raised slogans and celebrated victory of their candidates. However, SP leaders seemed disappointed over poll results which were showing in favour of BJP.

“The results are according to exit polls and BJP alliance government is going to form the government. Yogi Adityanath will be chief minister again and will break the record of three decades during which no government repeated itself in the state. Many myths have also been broken. The people have voted wisely and elected double engine government of Yogi and Modi. The opposition will now blame EVMs alleging that BJP has manipulated it. Bulldozer has been greased and will be functional soon at places which are left,” said Singh.

Cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi defeated his nearest opponent Samajwadi Party’s Raees Chandra Shukla with 26770 votes. Nandi, who won Allahabad South seat, bagged 97,487 votes while Shukla got 71,070 votes in final round of the counting.

“Party’s huge victory is the result of chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s works for the people of the state. The votes I have received are like a debt on me. I will work for the people to repay it,” Nandi shared.

Piyush Ranjan, who won Karchhana seat on BJP Apna Dal alliance ticket, gave the credit of his victory to people of the constituency and top leadership.

“The former MLA and his family had harassed the people but now I will work for them,” Ranjan said.

Samajwadi Party candidate Sandeep Patel, who won from Meja seat, said SP workers worked with dedication. However, the BJP used criminals and government machinery in their favour and even tried to hack EVMs, he added.
