A youth carrying Kanwar to Prayagraj died after being hit by a motorcycle in the Kodhar area under Meja police station in the trans-Yamuna region of the district on Monday evening. The injured man was taken to the hospital by police where he died while undergoing treatment. The incident caused grief among his kin and locals, police said.

According to reports, a resident of Beri village, Satish Kumar Pandey (32), had left home with some youths of the village to fetch water from Sangam on Monday evening. The group was near Mudpela link road when a motorcycle, coming from the opposite direction, hit Satish. Injured Satish was rushed to the hospital with the help of police, where he died while undergoing treatment. SHO of Meja police station Dhirendra Singh also reached the spot and carried out investigations. SHO said further action will be taken after receiving a complaint in this connection.
Meanwhile, in a separate tragic incident, a 32-year-old Kanwaria drowned, while his friend was rescued by boatmen and locals present at the ghat on Ganga in the Manikpur area of Pratapgarh district on Monday, police said.
According to reports, a resident of Bhimi village, Ajeet Pratap Singh, Lavkush Sharma and others have gone to fetch Ganga water at Shahabad ghat. All of them were bathing in the river when Ajeet and Lavkush ventured into the deep waters and started drowning. Ajeet was swept away by the strong current while Lavkush was rescued by boatmen. SHO of Manikpur police station Manish Pandey reached the spot and engaged divers to search for the missing man.
