Missing phones worth 15 lakh traced in Prayagraj, handed back to owners

The surveillance team of the district police’s crime branch recovered and returned missing mobile phones of 80 citizens on Saturday

The surveillance team of the district police’s crime branch recovered and returned missing mobile phones of 80 citizens on Saturday. The brief ceremony saw policemen return 80 missing and stolen mobile phones worth around 15 lakh to their owners.

On this occasion, a student, Shailja Singh, who came to pick up her mobile phone, became emotional and started crying on getting back her phone.

A Hardoi resident, who is preparing for competitive exams in Prayagraj, Shailja recalled how about a year ago she had gone to Chowk to buy some things when her mobile phone went missing from a shop. “I had given an application in the SSP office in this regard,” she said. On Saturday, when SP Crime Satish Chandra returned her mobile, she became emotional.

Similarly, social worker Nisha Kundnani said that she had gone to a programme of MP Rita Joshi in Naini sometime back where her mobile had gone missing. She said that she still cannot believe that her missing phone is back with her.

People who got back their mobile phones appreciated the crime branch’s surveillance team constables Praveen Mishra, Balwant Yadav, Sudhanshu, Rajesh and Amod among others for their role in getting their mobile phones back. The surveillance team was given a cash reward of 25,000 on behalf of SSP, Prayagraj, Ajay Kumar.

On the occasion, SP, crime, Satish Chandra, urged people to never buy a mobile phone without proper documentation as such sets could be stolen or belong to someone else, causing problems for buyers at a later stage.
